What is Sanskrit?

Sansrit

Sanskrit is a word derived from samskrta, meaning “perfectly formed.”

It is one of the twenty two official languages of India. It is declared as a classical and ceremonial language used by the educated classes in Indian literature, philosophy, and scripture.

Sanskrit is the language of Yoga. For thousands of years the sounds of the Sanskrit language has been used to unite the body, breath and spirit. Sanskrit has played an important role in the tradition of yoga and the connection between the names of yoga postures and their effect on deep awareness of the body as well as in preparation for meditation.

Many yoga teachers continue to incorporate Sanskrit terms into their practice to remind students of the eastern roots of yoga as well as deepen the practice of more serious students.
